South America's glory

Voy Kay 02 Apr 2020

Third silhouette painting of a continent and my first ... failure! This did not come out very well at all, although the intention was very good. Let's sum up: the mountains are kindergarten stuff, the foliage poorly, the lama isn't tall enough and why is it floating on an air island??
The answer to that last question is that I really wanted a lama in this painting and had no room for it, so created an avatar island!
I'm happy with the fall and with the Moai statue. I had foreseen to put a toucan and a penguin in also but decided I had disaster enough already fo one painting.
Canvas used was a 16"x20" and the contour was made with black gesso and after it dried, a layer of liquid clear. Don't spare me this time with your comments!!.

To me, those mountains match and relate to the Moai statue.(which is awesome)... I like the waterfalls and foliage and the cute piranha 😯? Overall in my opinion not a failure.. Would love to see a complete painting of easter island!!

This is a map ofsouth america isn't it? Lama, waterfall and sky color are really beautiful.
Moai statue looks so real. Great job!
I've been Paraguay,Argentina and Brasil a long time ago. Iguazu falls are really spectacular.

Dear LJMP, thanks for visiting and appreciating my painting again, so welcome in these darkened days.
I'm indeed very proud of that Moai statue, it went very well although I gave it a more cartoonesk outlook since that painted more easily. Your idea about Easter Island really took my attention and interest. I will think bout this, NICE!
I'm still very dissapointed with my mountains, normally I paint those well but this time ….. horror! I'm happy you recognized the piranha, painting its teeth was a very tough one!!
Till next one my friend! :)

That's right Jin, it is a simplified countour of South America (more detailed would have been difficult).
The lama has not worked out well, I was afraid of lacking enough space to paint it so shortened its neck too much. I am really thinking hard about redoing it very soon!
Funny that you mentioned the Iguazu falls since I thought about that when I planned that fall. I haven't seen it myself, although I have been in Brasil as well (Sao Paulo and Aracatuba) but never been to Paraguay and Argentina, so here you got me jealous! :)
South America is one of my favourite continents and I visited Brasil, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Panama already. Peru is even my second favourite country in the world, mostly because I lived there several months in the early millenium and know it well.
Thank for your visit and cheers, stay safe and till soon!

You say that llama has failed, but it isn't.Ilike it very much. And I think I should definitely look at Iguazu Falls some day. My cousin loves to travel and has traveled a lot of countries, but said that I was most impressed by Iguazu Falls. This waterfall must be seen from both the Brazilian side and the Argentinean side.

You know, that would be a stunning painting, the Iguazu falls. If anyone can do this, it willd be you Jin!
They are indeed impressive, I aven'ts seen too many (famous) falls yet but most catching for me was the Gullfoss in Iceland and the Niagara (Canadian side).
Love so much that this website, beside awesome paintings and painters, brings the world closer together!!
